Love God. Love People. Go.

Celebrating 125 Years of God's Faithfulness

Throughout the decades, our church has faced both growth and hardship. Fires in 1938 and again in 1946 destroyed church buildings, yet neither tragedy could extinguish the mission. Each time, the congregation rose with renewed faith, rebuilding and pressing forward. In 1944, a new sanctuary was dedicated, and through the late 1940s and early 1950s, the church expanded its evangelistic reach and strengthened its commitment to discipleship and education.

As the church continued to grow, a new vision emerged. In the 1960s, expanding ministries led to the addition of new educational space. In 1972, under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Billie K. Friel, the church boldly stepped into the future by purchasing 37 acres of land. Just a few years later, in 1978, the congregation gathered for its first service on the current campus—marking a new chapter of ministry and opportunity.

Through every season, God has remained faithful. Even in recent years, our community has demonstrated remarkable resilience, standing strong in the face of challenges such as the devastating tornado that impacted our area. In its aftermath, we witnessed the strength of our church family and the power of hope as we rebuilt and moved forward together.

Today, First Mt. Juliet continues to grow as a church on mission—rooted in God’s Word, empowered by His Spirit, and committed to reaching people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Under the leadership of Dr. Phillip Dunn, our church is moving forward with renewed vision and purpose, building on a legacy of faith while embracing the opportunities ahead. As we look to the future, we do so with gratitude for God’s faithfulness in the past and great expectation for all He has yet to do.
